William Stone, "Mind Your Head", installation view

1.19.00 Chris-n-Carlos–C&C are roommates. Chris set up a late night cafe with film projections and a live band, Carlos made everyone food. That boy can dance. Carlos' mother is starting to get on his case about his Afro which I swear is the largest I've ever seen.
1.21.00 Actress "No Show"–I haven't decided whether I think their "we suck" trip really sucks or not.
1.23.00 Michelle Arujo–Michelle exhibited four paintings; this may be the only show without thorough documentation. I remember colors pink, purple, yellow and blue.
1.25.00 L Brandon Krall–Brandon keeps birds around her house outside of their cage. They shit all over the place but they are free. This show was an ode to one of her birds that died. It was a difficult performance and she set up really random objects and hung empty frames.
1.27.00 Steven Rhodes DST–Steven spent all night and all day building a wood structure that was the size of the entire room. There were several videos. The show was about daylight savings time.
1.29.00 Flux Information Sciences–Tristan built really beautiful Minimalist light sculptures ála Dan Flavin. Then there were the beautiful songs which they wrote with Nick (1.7.00) just for the occasion . . . nothing brought the place more alive than the music. A video of this performance is available. jamesfuentes@mail.com.
1.31.00 Bob Braine–"I look at landscape as not only a visual field to be rendered but as a site to be moved upon." He exhibited a bulletproof kayak he built; he kayaks all around New York City. Bob is on the brink of playing a significant role in the rejuvenation of the Bronx River. I hope it works out. This project can be seen in "PS1–Greater NY, www.PS1.org/cut/java/artistindex.html.
2.2.00 Ballisto–Ballisto consists of an architect, a med student, and two other guys. How they arrived at the idea of filling the entire space with balloons from top to bottom, I do not know.
2.4.00 Jonathan Chick "DickChick@hotmail.com"– Jonathan's father's name is Herb. Herb Chick.
2.6.00 Eva Dare Video City–Eva has the most thankless job at PS1. Her show consisted of photos of her as a child and photocopies. Lip Balm debuted. There was a band so it was dark and you really couldn't see her show. She took the show away with her after her opening.
2.8.00 Tom Warren "Portrait Studio"–Tom was in the now-legendary Times Square show (so were Liz-n-Val 1.17.00) in the '80s. His idea was very simple. Take a portrait of every single person that comes to the opening. There was only one photo on display. It was of some street kids in Fashion Moda, Stefan Eins' gallery in the South Bronx that closed in the early '90s.
2.10.00 Robert Montoya "Mofat Music"–Robert had no light in the gallery for his show. There was a tape of very Minimal music playing. It was a very meditative experience.
2.12.00 Liz Bougatsos–Liz put up a really nice show of photographs that very few people got to see because she just got back from being on the road with Will Oldham and didnŐt have the chance to notify people. Liz is in Actress (1.21.00) Her roommate Tanza videotaped the whole thing though. Tanza is available at Colin de Land, American Fine Arts, Inc.
2.14.00 Rolando Vega "As Arlene Schloss"–Rolando seemed normal until I witnessed the spectacle that was his performance. Imagine meeting a stranger about the age of your father, giving him a show at your gallery and showing up to see him alter the gallery into a neon environment and playing with toys in his underwear outside.
2.16.00 Charles Andreson "Ten years of Charles Andreson" –Charles was able to have a life retrospective of his painting. He enjoyed showing at my gallery much more than Mary Boone.
2.18.00 Niel Frankel–Niel made an elaborate installation, he has an impressive art collection. He is represented by Willoughby Sharp, who I am illegally subletting to right now.
2.20.00 Yuko KŃYuko exhibited fashion photos of many of her pretty friends, I almost made my second sale of the series from this show to Steven Alan, the gallery's next door neighbor. But no.
2.22.00 Brian Dooda–Poet, is currently finishing his degree at Apex technical school. He flaked.
2.24.00 Hans Winkler–German Hans travels the world making art. A lifestyle very few Americans will ever know. He collaborates with Adam Simon (12.12.99) and Mike Ballou (5.?.00). He was the only artist in the entire series to give me a work of art. It was a lovely gesture. He once illegally changed all the lights at the Statue of Liberty and made it red for a night. In August he will go to a remote cabin in the mountains of Italy with members of Faust and they will make art as hermits.
2.26.00 Nancy Barber–Nancy makes wonderful ceramics,. Everyone loved her work and wanted to buy stuff but, alas, her labor intensive work was too expensive for most people. Nancy fed us after Bob Braine (1.31.00) and after her show and after William Stone's show.
2.28.00 William Stone "Mind Your Head"–Bill created a ceiling that was only five feet eight inches tall so everyone had to move around crouching under this. You could, however, stick your head through one of the twenty holes he carved above. The result was many seemingly disembodied heads. All you could see from outside were heads! It was brilliant.
